Local man faces 17th DUI charge in one lifetime
Tuesday, 09 March 2010 22:45
He was charged with third offense DUI back in September and was back in court Tuesday accused of violating his probation; but prosecutors say the latest DUI charge was not Tony Hutchinson's third, it was really his 17th. His first offense dates back to 1977, but in South Dakota a DUI conviction dating back 10 years or more can't be used against you. Last fall, Hutchinson was taken in for his third DUI within 10 years and put in the 24/7 sobriety program. Prosecutors now say he violated the terms of the program. In court on Tuesday Hutchinson asked for his bond to be reinstated. Judge A.P. Fuller set his bond at $350. If Hutchinson makes that bond, the judge ordered him back into the 24/7 program.
