PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ The state Agriculture Department said it has
grants available for projects that enhance the competitiveness of
specialty crops such as fruits, dried fruits, tree nuts, vegetables
and nursery plants.
The money comes through the Specialty Crops Block Grant Program
in the 2008 Farm Bill.
The department said the projects should emphasize industry
education, consumer promotion, applied research and local foods
initiatives.
Applications are due by April 23.
