Thousands of daffodils are en route from Washington State to the Black Hills so area residents can celebrate Daffodil Days next week. The weeklong event is the second biggest fundraiser of the year for the American Cancer Society, second only to the Relay for Life. The ACS office in Rapid City is currently taking daffodil orders. You can have the flowers delivered to a cancer patient, cancer survivor, or anyone you'd simply like to surprise with a nice bouquet. Deliveries will be made Monday through Friday and making those deliveries is a special treat for the local volunteers who get to do it. George Larson with the Rapid City ACS office says, "It really is. There's nothing more special, especially giving the gift of hope from a volunteer to a cancer survivor in our area, especially when they're not expecting it." A basic bunch is $10 but other types of daffodil deals are available as well. The "Bear and a Bunch," for example, is $25. Larson says Daffodil Days raises close to $200-thousand every year in South Dakota alone. If you'd like to place an order, you can do so by contacting the Rapid City ACS office. There are also on-site sales next Monday and Tuesday at Victoria's Garden and at the west-side Safeway. The last day you can order is Thursday, March 18th.
